How we work it
What we've learned here
Brick and exposed timber with soaring ceilings is a beautiful room and an acoustically demanding one. Hard parallel surfaces mean a long reverb tail — speeches turn to mush if the system isn't controlled, and an over-loud dinner set becomes a wash. We use a more directional setup here than we would in a carpeted ballroom, aimed to cover the guest area without exciting the brick. The upside is that once the floor opens, the room's natural energy works for you: a well-tuned system in a 5,000 sq ft brick hall sounds enormous without needing to be punishingly loud.
Planning notes
Three things worth knowing
- It's a heritage building downtown, which is fantastic for guest accommodation — most Kelowna hotels are walking distance — and it means load-in works on city-street timing. We plan around that.
- The open floor plan is a blank canvas, which is freedom and responsibility in equal measure. Lighting does more work here than at a venue with its own built-in atmosphere.
- A lot of couples pair a winery ceremony with a Laurel reception. Two locations means two systems and a transport window — easy to do well, easy to underestimate.

FAQ
Laurel Packinghouse FAQ
Live. Original brick walls, exposed timber and high ceilings create a long reverb tail, which is gorgeous for atmosphere and unforgiving for speeches. We run a more directional system here and tune for intelligibility first — the room supplies plenty of size on its own.
Frequently — it's one of the more common Kelowna combinations. It means two independent setups and a planned transport window between them, which we build into the day rather than improvising.
We serve Kelowna and the Central Okanagan on select dates rather than as our home market — our base is Kamloops. If you have a Kelowna date, checking availability early matters more than it would for an Interior venue.
